SES is pleased to now offer the following service set which includes the following training, exercise and assessment services:
- A Webinar (25 sites) that will address an overview of the development of a mass fatalities plan. The Webinar will be conducted by Peter Teahen, the Director of the International Mass Fatalities Center (IMFC).
- The session will last 90 minutes and all participants will receive access to a mass fatalities management plan template that has been developed by the professionals at the IMFC that has been used in a number of cities and counties including Los Angeles and Omaha.
- Participants will be instructed on what is required to develop a customized mass fatalities plan for their hospitals and communities.
This Mass Fatalities module provides an overview of mass fatalities incidents and identifies key issues related to planning and implementing responses to these types of disasters.
After completing this module, participants will be able to:
- Define a mass fatalities incident.
- Describe the five operational sites of a mass fatalities response.
- Explain the role of the Medical Examiner in a mass fatalities incident.
- Identify strategic planning issues in developing a mass fatalities incident response plan.
- A one-day workshop addressing fatalities management and response overview for healthcare professionals. The staff from the IMFC will conduct a one-day on-site mass fatalities workshop. This will be an on-site workshop in the region regarding the specifics on designing and implementing a mass fatalities plan. Attached is a copy of the outline for the workshop.
The physical and emotional well-being of survivors and responders, protection of public health, preservation of evidence, and the fulfillment of public expectations demand that healthcare providers and emergency responders are appropriately trained. This presentation will help prepare healthcare professionals to effectively respond to a mass fatalities incident. Topics covered will include critical planning issues, systematic methods of managing a mass fatalities incident, operational site functions, roles and responsibilities of responders, teamwork and self care.
At the completion of this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Define a mass fatalities response;
- Describe the chaos of a mass fatalities incident and the need for a systematic approach for managing the incident;
- Delineate the roles and responsibilities of responding agencies
- Describe the critical issues involved in the planning process for a mass fatalities incident;
- List the operational sites and functions of a mass fatalities incident;
- Explain the cultural, religious, legal and regulatory issues related to remains recovery
- Describe Morgue Site Operations
- Develop strategies for the disposition of the deceased under conditions of a natural disease outbreak, natural disaster, and criminal/terrorist events
- Develop policies procedures and process for using refrigerated storage in a mass fatalities incident
- Identify roles and responsibilities of responders to a mass fatalities incident
- Identify psychosocial issues involved in a mass fatalities response
